Who oversees treatment
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services, through its Division of Quality Assurance, certifies substance use treatment programs under Wis. Admin. Code ch. DHS 75.
Prescription monitoring
Wisconsin's Enhanced Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (ePDMP) tracks controlled substance prescriptions. It was established by the state Controlled Substances Board under Wis. Stat. 961.385.
Public coverage for treatment
Wisconsin's Medicaid program is administered through ForwardHealth, and it covers a range of substance use disorder benefits.
Overdose Good Samaritan law
Wisconsin's Wis. Stat. 961.443 gives limited immunity from drug possession and paraphernalia charges to a person who seeks emergency help for someone having an overdose or bad reaction to a controlled substance.
How the state treats gabapentin
Wisconsin does not schedule gabapentin as a controlled substance, but the Controlled Substances Board designates it a monitored prescription drug (Wis. Admin. Code CSB 4.03). Dispensers must report gabapentin fills to the state Prescription Drug Monitoring Program.

Ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic and a Schedule III controlled substance. A related prescription nasal spray, esketamine, is approved for treatment-resistant depression and is given only in certified clinics. Outside medical settings, ketamine is misused for its dissociative effects.
Regular ketamine use can lead to cravings and compulsive use, and it can damage the bladder and urinary tract. There is no approved medication for ketamine addiction, so treatment relies on therapy and care for co-occurring mental health conditions. See our ketamine addiction guide.
What ketamine rehab looks like
There is no approved medication for ketamine addiction, so rehab is built on therapy: cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, group work and relapse prevention. Because many people who misuse ketamine also have depression, anxiety or trauma, programs that treat mental health and substance use together tend to work best.
The programs on this page are residential or dual-diagnosis programs. Confirm with each program near Wisconsin that it treats ketamine use.

Cost and coverage
The cost of treatment depends mostly on the level of care, how long you stay and your insurance. Residential care costs the most; outpatient therapy the least. Many programs on SAMHSA's directory accept private insurance, and some offer sliding-scale fees. See our insurance guides for details by carrier.
