Detox + mental healthWhat to know about ketamine
Ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic and a Schedule III controlled substance. A related prescription nasal spray, esketamine, is approved for treatment-resistant depression and is given only in certified clinics. Outside medical settings, ketamine is misused for its dissociative effects.
Regular ketamine use can lead to cravings and compulsive use, and it can damage the bladder and urinary tract. There is no approved medication for ketamine addiction, so treatment relies on therapy and care for co-occurring mental health conditions. See our ketamine addiction guide.
What ketamine detox involves
A supervised detox gives you structure and support in the first days off ketamine, when cravings and mood swings are strongest. Programs pairing detox with mental health care are listed first on this page.

Paying for treatment
Most private health insurance plans cover addiction treatment, including detox, residential care and outpatient programs, though what is covered depends on your plan and whether the program is in network. Many programs also offer sliding-scale fees or take self-pay. Ask about prior authorization before you go, and see our insurance guides.
