Who oversees treatment
Maryland's Behavioral Health Administration, part of the Maryland Department of Health, oversees public behavioral health services, and its Office of Quality Assurance conducts compliance reviews and investigations of behavioral health programs.
Prescription monitoring
The Maryland Prescription Drug Monitoring Program is run by the Maryland Department of Health's Office of the PDMP. It collects and securely stores data on dispensed drugs containing controlled substances.
Public coverage for treatment
Maryland's Medicaid program is HealthChoice, and the state has pursued a federal waiver so Medicaid can pay for residential substance use treatment.
Overdose Good Samaritan law
Maryland's Good Samaritan law protects people who seek or provide help in an overdose emergency, and the overdose victim, from arrest and prosecution for offenses such as controlled substance possession and paraphernalia. It does not cover drug felonies or bystanders who do not help.

Ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic and a Schedule III controlled substance. A related prescription nasal spray, esketamine, is approved for treatment-resistant depression and is given only in certified clinics. Outside medical settings, ketamine is misused for its dissociative effects.
Regular ketamine use can lead to cravings and compulsive use, and it can damage the bladder and urinary tract. There is no approved medication for ketamine addiction, so treatment relies on therapy and care for co-occurring mental health conditions. See our ketamine addiction guide.
What ketamine rehab looks like
Ketamine rehab gives you distance from the drug and time to address what drove the use. Residential care suits frequent, heavy use or use alongside other drugs; intensive dual-diagnosis programs fit when you can live at home safely.
Ask about psychiatric care, therapy for trauma, and medical follow-up for bladder or urinary symptoms.

Paying for treatment
Most private health insurance plans cover addiction treatment, including detox, residential care and outpatient programs, though what is covered depends on your plan and whether the program is in network. Many programs also offer sliding-scale fees or take self-pay. Ask about prior authorization before you go, and see our insurance guides.
