Who oversees treatment
Kentucky's Cabinet for Health and Family Services, through its Department for Behavioral Health, Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities, licenses outpatient and residential alcohol and other drug treatment programs, which may not admit clients until they hold a license.
Prescription monitoring
Kentucky's prescription monitoring program is KASPER (Kentucky All Schedule Prescription Electronic Reporting), run by the Cabinet for Health and Family Services' Office of Inspector General. It collects records of Schedule II through V controlled substances dispensed in the state.
Overdose Good Samaritan law
KRS 218A.133 protects a person who in good faith seeks medical help for an overdose, and the person overdosing, from charges for possessing a controlled substance or drug paraphernalia, provided they stay until help arrives. It does not shield against other crimes.
Court-ordered treatment
Kentucky has a court process in KRS 222.430 to 222.437 for involuntary treatment of alcohol and other drug abuse. A spouse, relative, friend or guardian can petition the District Court, which may order treatment if the person is an imminent danger and could benefit.
How the state treats gabapentin
Kentucky classifies gabapentin as a Schedule V controlled substance under state regulation 902 KAR 55:015, even though it is not scheduled federally. That means gabapentin prescriptions in Kentucky are handled as controlled-substance prescriptions under state rules.

Ambien (zolpidem), Lunesta (eszopiclone) and Sonata (zaleplon) are prescription sleep medications often called z-drugs. They are Schedule IV controlled substances. The FDA requires a boxed warning about complex sleep behaviors, such as sleep-walking and sleep-driving, which can cause serious injuries.
Long-term or high-dose use can lead to tolerance and dependence. Stopping suddenly can cause rebound insomnia and anxiety, so a gradual, supervised taper is safest. Read our Ambien addiction guide.
What sleeping pill rehab looks like
Sleeping pill rehab is less about willpower and more about rebuilding sleep. Expect a slow medication taper, sleep education, therapy and, in residential care, a consistent schedule that resets your body clock.
Tell the program about everything you take, including alcohol, opioids or benzodiazepines, because combinations raise the risk.

Insurance and cost
Federal parity rules generally require health plans that cover substance use treatment to cover it on terms comparable to other medical care. Your actual cost depends on your plan, deductible and the program's network status, so verify benefits first. Our insurance guides explain how major carriers handle prescription drug rehab.
