Prescription monitoring
Idaho's prescription drug monitoring program is run by the Board of Pharmacy within the Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses. It collects data on controlled substance prescriptions dispensed in the state and shares it with prescribers and with other states' programs.
Public coverage for treatment
Idaho Medicaid members can get substance use disorder services, including screening, residential and outpatient treatment and recovery support, by going through the state's behavioral health manager, Magellan.
Overdose Good Samaritan law
Idaho Code section 37-2739C protects a person who in good faith seeks medical help for a drug-related emergency, and the person in need of help, from prosecution for certain drug offenses such as possession and paraphernalia when the evidence came from the call for help.
Court-ordered treatment
Under Idaho's Alcoholism and Intoxication Treatment Act (Idaho Code 39-307A), police must take a person who appears incapacitated by alcohol or drugs into protective custody and bring them to an approved treatment facility. This is a short-term protective hold, not a long-term commitment.

Ambien (zolpidem), Lunesta (eszopiclone) and Sonata (zaleplon) are prescription sleep medications often called z-drugs. They are Schedule IV controlled substances. The FDA requires a boxed warning about complex sleep behaviors, such as sleep-walking and sleep-driving, which can cause serious injuries.
Long-term or high-dose use can lead to tolerance and dependence. Stopping suddenly can cause rebound insomnia and anxiety, so a gradual, supervised taper is safest. Read our Ambien addiction guide.
What sleeping pill rehab looks like
Sleeping pill rehab is less about willpower and more about rebuilding sleep. Expect a slow medication taper, sleep education, therapy and, in residential care, a consistent schedule that resets your body clock.
Tell the program about everything you take, including alcohol, opioids or benzodiazepines, because combinations raise the risk.

Cost and coverage
The cost of treatment depends mostly on the level of care, how long you stay and your insurance. Residential care costs the most; outpatient therapy the least. Many programs on SAMHSA's directory accept private insurance, and some offer sliding-scale fees. See our insurance guides for details by carrier.
