Who oversees treatment
Nevada's Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Agency (SAPTA), within the Division of Public and Behavioral Health, is the state's Single State Agency and certifies alcohol and drug programs under NRS 458.025.
Prescription monitoring
The Nevada Prescription Monitoring Program is a database of dispensed controlled substance prescriptions that prescribers and dispensers check, hosted on the State Board of Pharmacy's website.
Overdose Good Samaritan law
NRS 453C.150 protects a person who in good faith seeks medical help for an overdose, and the overdose victim, from arrest and prosecution for certain drug possession, use, and paraphernalia offenses when the evidence came from seeking help.
Court-ordered treatment
Nevada's involuntary court-ordered admission law (NRS 433A) is built around mental health crisis, and dependence on or addiction to alcohol or other substances does not qualify by itself unless a diagnosable mental illness is also present.

Ambien (zolpidem), Lunesta (eszopiclone) and Sonata (zaleplon) are prescription sleep medications often called z-drugs. They are Schedule IV controlled substances. The FDA requires a boxed warning about complex sleep behaviors, such as sleep-walking and sleep-driving, which can cause serious injuries.
Long-term or high-dose use can lead to tolerance and dependence. Stopping suddenly can cause rebound insomnia and anxiety, so a gradual, supervised taper is safest. Read our Ambien addiction guide.
What medically managed detox involves
Sedative withdrawal can range from a few bad nights to dangerous symptoms after heavy use. Medically managed detox keeps doctors and nurses on hand, uses a gradual taper, and treats anxiety and sleeplessness along the way.

Paying for treatment
Most private health insurance plans cover addiction treatment, including detox, residential care and outpatient programs, though what is covered depends on your plan and whether the program is in network. Many programs also offer sliding-scale fees or take self-pay. Ask about prior authorization before you go, and see our insurance guides.
