Who oversees treatment
Alaska's Department of Health, through its Division of Behavioral Health, oversees substance use disorder treatment in the state, approving treatment providers and certifying addiction professionals.
Prescription monitoring
The Alaska Prescription Drug Monitoring Program tracks Schedule II-IV controlled substances dispensed in the state and is run by the Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing within the Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development.
Public coverage for treatment
Alaska Medicaid covers a range of substance use disorder treatment services under its behavioral health demonstration run by the Division of Behavioral Health, and treatment providers must enroll with Alaska Medicaid to be reimbursed.
Overdose Good Samaritan law
Under AS 11.71.311, a person who seeks help in good faith for someone overdosing, or who seeks help for their own overdose, is shielded from prosecution for certain drug possession offenses when the evidence was found because of the call; helpers must stay and cooperate with responders.
Court-ordered treatment
Alaska Statutes Chapter 47.37 allows protective custody of people incapacitated by alcohol or drugs, emergency commitment, and court-ordered commitment of 30 days with possible longer recommitment for people with alcohol or drug problems.
How the state treats gabapentin
Alaska does not schedule gabapentin as a controlled substance under state law, according to records of the state's Controlled Substances Advisory Committee. Alaska's prescription drug monitoring program tracks scheduled controlled substances, so gabapentin falls outside it.

Adderall is a prescription stimulant that combines amphetamine salts. It is approved for ADHD and narcolepsy and is a Schedule II controlled substance because it can be misused and lead to dependence. Misuse includes taking higher doses than prescribed, taking someone else's pills, or crushing and snorting them.
There is no FDA-approved medication for stimulant use disorder, so treatment relies on behavioral therapies such as contingency management and cognitive behavioral therapy. Read our Adderall addiction guide for signs and treatment options.
What Adderall rehab looks like
The strongest evidence for stimulant addiction supports contingency management, which rewards drug-free tests, along with cognitive behavioral therapy and community reinforcement. Ask any program near Alaska which of these it uses.
Residential care makes sense when use is daily, when outpatient attempts have not worked, or when depression after stopping is severe.

Will insurance cover it?
Coverage varies, but most commercial plans pay for some level of addiction treatment when it is medically necessary. Check whether the program is in network, whether you need pre-approval, and how many days of residential care your plan allows. Our insurance guides cover major carriers.
