Who oversees treatment
The Alabama Department of Mental Health regulates the state's public substance use services system and certifies treatment providers; it contracts with community organizations to deliver outpatient and residential care rather than running programs itself.
Prescription monitoring
Alabama's Prescription Drug Monitoring Program is run by the Alabama Department of Public Health's Pharmacy Division under Code of Alabama 1975, section 20-2-210 and following. It collects dispensing records for Schedule II-V controlled substances so prescribers and pharmacists can see a patient's controlled-substance history.
Overdose Good Samaritan law
Alabama law gives civil and criminal immunity to a person who, in good faith and with reasonable care, gives an opioid antagonist such as naloxone to someone who appears to be having an opioid overdose, and to the prescribers and dispensers involved. The Alabama Department of Mental Health calls the 2015 law that created these protections the Good Samaritan Law.
How the state treats gabapentin
Alabama treats gabapentin as a controlled substance, classing it in Schedule V under state rules. The Alabama Board of Medical Examiners notified licensees of the change to Schedule V.

Inpatient / residentialWhat to know about Adderall
Adderall is a prescription stimulant that combines amphetamine salts. It is approved for ADHD and narcolepsy and is a Schedule II controlled substance because it can be misused and lead to dependence. Misuse includes taking higher doses than prescribed, taking someone else's pills, or crushing and snorting them.
There is no FDA-approved medication for stimulant use disorder, so treatment relies on behavioral therapies such as contingency management and cognitive behavioral therapy. Read our Adderall addiction guide for signs and treatment options.
What Adderall rehab looks like
Adderall rehab focuses on changing patterns of use rather than replacing the drug with a medication. Days in residential care combine individual therapy, groups, exercise, regular sleep and meals, which help the brain recover after heavy stimulant use. Outpatient programs deliver the same therapies while you live at home.
A good program also checks for ADHD, depression and anxiety, and works with a prescriber on how to manage ADHD symptoms safely after treatment near Alabama.

Cost and coverage
The cost of treatment depends mostly on the level of care, how long you stay and your insurance. Residential care costs the most; outpatient therapy the least. Many programs on SAMHSA's directory accept private insurance, and some offer sliding-scale fees. See our insurance guides for details by carrier.
